The Meadow Garden
The Meadow Garden resides along the side of the road as you first enter Ananda Village, making it a perfect demonstration garden for the entire Ananda community.

This garden resides in a small valley surrounded by hills, and has no overstory forest cover. Consequently, it is extremely cold in the winter and spring and very hot in the summer. There is a bountiful supply of filtered pond water available, but it is prone to late-spring frost.

Apples, pears, plums, currants, gooseberries, jujubees, aronia, elderberry, stinging nettle, St. John’s wort and comfrey do very well here. More experimentation is underway.
Vana Deva Garden
The Vana Deva (Forest of the Devas) site is in the tall black oaks, has good air drainage off the hilltop and is warmer in winter and cooler in summer. These conditions allow us to grow crops such as peaches, figs, pomegranate, persimmons, lemon verbena, ginger, olives, and other tender perennials.

A hoop house at this location extends our growing season.
